#EF6: Yup, Ahok is My Alter Ego.

Thinking about alter ego causes two things: confusion and imagination. I was confused because the articles i found in Google were mostly a theoretical explanation. Then, when I grasped the meaning of alter ego, my imagination went wild. What character could build my alter ego? Or, who will best describe my alter ego?

Well, before we answer the question, I will explain about the definition first. According to Wikipedia, an alter ego is a second self, which is believed to be distinct from a person’s normal or original personality. It also refers to different behaviors any person may display in certain situation.

Suddenly I remembered a friend of  mine who had just came back from a 3-year-study in Japan. She told me that in Japan, she found her other self. This calm polite lady said she became a risk taker and more expressive there. Well, I guess she already had those characters but her environment and situation in Indonesia didn’t give any space for the characters to come out.

I sometimes experienced that, too. There were some moments or phases of life that I think showed me my other self.  If I can describe it into existing character, i choose Basuki Tjahaja Purnama a.k.a Ahok, Jakarta Governor.

People know him as someone who is not afraid to speak up his mind regardless the controversy he caused. As long as he’s sure that the decision or policy he made is right, he doesnt’t care about what people say. For some people, he is a public enemy. He often expresses his anger in front of public, in front of the camera, including threatening they who violate the law.

What a perfect antagonist character.

I don’t say that Ahok is bad, although he acts as the bad cop almost all the time.  I appreciate him for being his true self, keep his commitment, and take the risk to fight for the betterment for people he leads. That’s why I think he represents my alter ego. So, don’t be surprised if one day I become like him because it means, my alter ego rules, haha..

Since alter ego usually the opposite of someone’s ego, so I think now you know what kind of person I am. J
